Last year, my neighbour build a wall. He had never built a wall before; I imagine he watched You Tube videos, and he taught himself. He has a big house, with jobs to do, and doesn’t have an endless budget (I sure he also he wanted to do the work himself). When he went to the builders yard to buy materials, I wonder if the staff told him, that he would be better paying a trained builder to do the work? If he had reached out to a builder for advice, I wonder what response he may have gotten? (probably depends on the builder)
So what has this got to do with Flowers? Well since starting Flourish, I have seen and read a lot of negativity, around brides and grooms wanting to do their own wedding flowers. I have read replies on Facebook posts ranging from supportive, helpful, realistic…through to arrogant, off putting and pretty damn ugly. But I wonder…why would anyone, put someone off ‘having a go’??
The facts are ….becoming an accomplished florist takes time. We build our knowledge, portfolio and experience, brick by brick. Once you have started to nail it, you put a bridal bouquet together with ease, caring for the flowers for days beforehand, knowing which flowers work alongside each other, creating a shape and style to suit the budget and brief, and make a little part of a bride or groom’s dream come true.
But with so many couples being up against it to get themselves on the property ladder, often the idea of an expensive wedding is a pipedream. And just like my neighbour, one of the ways you can get more brick for your buck, is by doing the work yourself.
If you are getting married soon, and are considering doing your own fresh wedding flowers….I urge you to get in touch. I promise….I’ll give you honest advice…not scare mongering…just facts.
Will it add to the stress? You bet.
Can I just go to the flower market the night before? If you have left it until the night before… you’re too late
Is it easy? Depends on what you plan to create
Will I regret it? Not if you’re realistic about what you can achieve
Will I save money? Almost certainly
Is it achievable? You’re dame sure it is
We offer options….such as advice, workshops, supply only, part wedding orders (we do the hard bits, you do what you can manage), and most definitely ….wedding flowers on a budget. We won’t put you off …and a face to face meeting with me is completely free
Oh and by the way….my neighbours wall….is absolutely stunning xx
